Viscose Rugs – Owners Waiver

Due to the fragile nature of viscose fibres and the limitations in terms of cleaning products that can be used in the cleaning process of these fibres, we will only clean Viscose rugs at the owner’s risk.

Viscose is a manufactured, regenerated cellulose fiber (cotton and wood pulp by-products). It is made shiny with the use of a viscose liquid chemical processing. This inferior fiber presents several problems when cleaning and may dull or show colour variances following the cleaning process.

Shedding

Viscose Rayon fibers are weak therefore only light broom / brushes or soft hand brushes can be used.

Bleeding

Viscose does not readily hold dye, it fades and bleeds. Therefore Viscose rugs with marks & spots or stains like pet marks, water marks, ink , paint , blood , etc. may cause permanent damage to these delicate fibres. With limitations on products it makes the treatment of these marks & spots very difficult.

Yellowing

Cellulose fibers yellow when wet, so it is generally expected that viscose fibres will yellow when cleaned. Spills often become yellow areas and fibers tend to yellow after cleaning.

Stiffening & Stretching

Viscose rugs can become stiff, matted & stretched after cleaning. This makes the fibers appear blotchy and can make the top pile feel like cardboard to the touch. These rugs are directional type fiber rugs; therefore hand grooming is required to get the pile in the same direction, however, this is not always possible as the fibres may be in different direction when manufactured.
